Gorilla Safaris

The Virunga Mountains that stretches through the borders of Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, are homes to around 500 mountain gorillas, more than half of the world’s entire population (the rest live in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda). In Volcanoes National Park, the Rwandan part of the Virungas, twelve gorilla groups are now habituated for gorilla safaris, more than anywhere else in the world.

Gorilla Trekking Safaris in Rwanda  and Uganda

Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is done Volcanoes National Park or Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in the Northern province around Ruhengeri town. Volcanoes National Park encompases the larger Virunga massif and is one of mountain gorillas habitat with others being in Bwindi Impenetrable in Uganda and Virunga National Park in Congo. Gorilla Tracking in Virunga Nat Park is slightly less strenuous than at Bwindi since the gorillas move around a little less. The more open terrain also allows more light for better photo opportunities than in Bwindi Nat Park.
