5 Days Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth Nat Park
This 5 Days Murchison falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks’ tour takes you to the rhinos at the ziwa rhino sanctuary, a top of the falls, great savannah woodlands and open savannah grasslands in Murchison falls for memorable safari experience. Boat ride on the kazinga channel for ardent birders as the park has several species among them kingfishers, and other wildlife like the African buffaloes, elephants and crocodiles.
Day 1: Travel from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park
Depending on your flight arrival in Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Kampala, or if you already be staying the night before in Kampala, Kawira Safaris sets out as early as you are able to, at a time that is convenient for you. However, note that the travel to Murchison will take about 4 to 5 hours. If you leave early morning, there will be a good chance for you to have an afternoon picnic at the top of the falls. The later you depart, the later you will arrive.
You will drive toward the northwest route via Masindi town where you can have lunch. You will pass by the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary along the way. The sanctuary has 15 resident southern white rhinos and it is the only place in Uganda where there are still wild rhinos. Then, later in the evening, after your quick visit to the falls, you can check in at your accommodation to get some dinner, good sleep, and relaxation for the night.
Day 2: Game drive and boat trip (camping at the top of the falls)
This activity will entail you to start very early in the day. So, you should take a cup of tea or coffee to warm yourself up. You shall leave for the ferry crossing to the north bank by 06:30. Don’t worry because a full breakfast will be served as you return to your accommodation after the game drive activity. The early morning start will give you the opportunity to see predators returning to their hideouts.
This will also show you animals like Jackson’s hartebeests, lions, herds of buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffe, and waterbuck elephants, among others. You will pass between the Victoria and Albert Niles to the Nile-Lake Albert Delta, this is part of the Buligi game tracks. This adventure will take about 4 hours. It will finish at about 11:00, then head back to your accommodation to take some rest, and lunch before starting with the next activity in the itinerary.
You will take a scenic boat ride along the Victoria Nile, which is part of the catchment of water under the falls. From this view, the falls look very majestic. This also where you can have close encounters with basking hippos by the Nile bank, and the chance to see the huge Nile crocodiles.
This area is also a haven not only for birdwatchers but for non-birdwatchers alike since there are about 450 species of birds in the vicinity. This activity will take about 3 hours. After the boat trip, you will return to your accommodation to freshen up and get ready for a special barbecue dinner where there will be storytelling of different folklores by the camp fire.
Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, you will drive to Kaniyo Pabidi Forest Reserve where you can do some chimpanzee tracking. The chimpanzee sounds reverberate through the whole forest. You can see the chimps in their natural habitat. The view is fantastic and the wildlife is very diverse and lush. The chimps share 98 percent of their DNA with humans. It will be a very interesting and unique interaction. After the chimpanzee tracking in Kaniyo Pabidi Forest Reserve, you shall head to Queen Elizabeth National Park, and have lunch in Fort Portal which is along the way. When you reach Queen Elizabeth National Park, you shall check-in to your accommodation, have dinner, and get some rest for the night to prepare for the next adventure.
Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park
You can have an early breakfast as you travel to the nearby Kyambura Gorge. During the walk, you may spot chimpanzees, other monkeys, elephants, hippopotamuses, lions, and birds, among other animals. After lunch, you shall go to the Mweya Peninsula for a boat ride along the Kazinga Channel. There will be plentiful wildlife along the banks. There will be a good chance for you to see buffaloes, elephants, birds, and hippopotamuses.
The Mweya Peninsula is a sight to behold as it overlooks the Katwe bay of Lake Edward. It is considered as the ‘heart of sightseeing’ in the park. Subsequently, the Northern area of Kazinga Channel is near Mweya Peninsula. It is the body of water joining together Lake Edward and Lake George. It is about 40 meters long. You can view a lot of different wildlife along the banks. There will be a variety of mammals, reptiles, and birds. After the day’s activity, you can return to your accommodation to have dinner and get well-deserved rest after his action-packed day of adventure.
Day 5: Sunrise game drive at Kasenyi Park and drive back to Kampala
You should begin before breakfast, just having tea or coffee so you can go for a game drive through the Kasenyi Park. It is at sunrise that there is the biggest chance to see lions, hyenas, and leopards. After that, you can return to your accommodation for breakfast. You can take a short recharge before you check out and leave. You will have lunch on the drive back to Kampala. Kawira Safaris will take you either to Entebbe International Airport (EBB) if you are catching a flight, or to your respective hotel if you will still be spending the night.
