7 Days Masai Mara and Gorilla Trekking Safari
Destinations: Masai Mara National Reserve, Volcanoes National Park
Highlights: Big five, wildebeest migration (July-October), Mountain Gorilla safari, variety of scenery and animals
Day 1: Nairobi – Masai Mara
Depart early from Nairobi, heading north, then descending the escarpment and driving along the floor of the Great Rift Valley to the Masai town of Narok. After a stop for fuel and refreshments, proceed to the Masai Mara Reserve and check in at camp. Proceed on an afternoon game drive with your first opportunity to spot some of the big five. Late afternoon return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Masai Mara
After breakfast, depart on a full day game drive with picnic lunch near the Mara River over-looking hippo pools and the Serengeti. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Masai Mara – Nairobi
After breakfast, you undertake a morning game drive. Mid morning, you depart the Masai Mara and return via Narok back to Nairobi, with lunch on route. Drop off at the airport for your flight to Kigali Rwanda.

Day 4: Kigali – Gisozi Genocide Memorial – Kimironko Market – Kigali City – Nyamirambo women center.
At 10:00 depart for a day of up close memorable experiences with some Rwanda beautiful people and culture.
1. Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site
The was officially opened on April 7th, 2004 (on the 10th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide). This site was built to commemorate the 250,000 Tutsis murdered during the genocide. Special tribute goes to the Aegis Trust, a UK based charity organization in collaboration with the Kigali High Council. Aegis signifies “shield” or “trust”. This organization campaigns against crimes against humanity and genocide. It was established in 2000.
The memorial site has the following: the main historical exhibition, a Children’s Memorial exhibition and an exhibition on comparative genocide – called Wasted Lives. The 4-acre memorial gardens contain 10 mass graves and the National Genocide Documentation Centre
2. Kimironko Market
This is a huge local market. You can buy almost anything there. Alley upon alley of fascinating products / produce and vendors. I loved the bantering interaction with the vendors. Outside the main market, stalls sell everything from meat and fish to sunglasses and household items.

Day 5: Kigali – Ruhengeri
After your morning breakfast, depart for Ruhengeri area the second largest town in Rwanda, with its stunning backdrop of five volcanic mountains – The Virungas . Arrive in time for your hotel check in. Dinner and overnight will be at your hotel.

Day 6; Gorilla trekking
After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the National Park headquarters – Kinigi to meet your guides for the day. After completing our park formalities, we are embark on a once in a life time experience on the gorilla trek tour. Once you spot the gorillas, you are allowed to spend an hour watching your closest long lost cousin. Return to your hotel for lunch and later afternoon at leisure.

Day 7; Golden Monkey – Kigali
After an early breakfast, you will again drive to the park headquarters where you will have briefings and formalities for the golden monkeys trekking. The golden monkeys are rare, beautiful, and distinctive bamboo-associated primates of the blue monkey family and endemic to the Albertine Rift Valley. After golden monkeys trekking, you will have lunch and then enjoy the scenic transfer back to Kigali with onward transfer to the airport for your evening outbound flight.
